Informing the World-

Making a Poster

Now that you have learned about what Seaweed is, how it affects the natural world, who the stakeholders are based on issues regarding seaweed, what people like Dr. Francis do to find and rectify any issues and how scientists tell the world about the information they find, it is your turn to make a creative, informative display of ideas and knowledge to share with your school community and broader community.

THE TASK- Create an Informative and Creative Poster

  • To complete this task it is recommended that you form a group of 2-3. It is important to work with other people to compile different ideas and knowledge as Dr. Francis has done with her research partner Alecia Bellgrove, as seen in her research article in Activity 2.

  • This poster should be informative including all that you have learnt in the activities you have completed and should also contain more information that you have researched too.

  • Your teacher will inform you as to the platform you should use to make this poster whether it is a paper poster or a computer based one.

What you need to include:

  • An introduction to Seaweed with general information. What it is, where it grows, how it reproduces, etc.

  • Why is Seaweed important?

  • Who is it important to? Overall look into stakeholders, don't forget the people who inform us of issues regarding seaweed- the scientists. Find other scientists who have done research regarding seaweed.

  • How does it impact the living and non living world?

  • How does it impact life in the ocean if seaweed starts to deplete or if becomes fully depleted? Does it impact the greenhouse effect?

  • Choose a stakeholder and describe in detail the effect of seaweed depletion on them.

  • Conclude by discussing how you can help scientists, marine biologists and the natural world to preserve seaweed. What can people of the general population do?

  • Include a list of references you have used.

Remember to:

  • Make the presentation appealing, readable, informative but concise and creative.

  • When researching information, make sure you look at the sources and make sure you try and use primary sources and secondary sources.

  • Check spelling and grammar.

  • Use Pictures! If you have the opportunity, use your own from the beach.

  • Enjoy the the process and have fun, you are being given an opportunity to be creative while learning and also the opportunity to share with the world what you have learnt!
